Opal & Keel 13 June 2027

We’re getting married

Opal & Keel are tying the knot by the water

Saturday, 13 June 2027 · Harbourlight House · A long afternoon of salt air, slow food and dancing until the lanterns go out.

The short version

Two people, one very stubborn sailing dinghy

We met because Keel was the only person on the pier willing to help drag a half-sunk boat out of the shallows, and Opal was the only person stubborn enough to think it could still be saved. It could not. We kept the oars anyway.

Nine years later, we have repainted a kitchen three times, learned to make one genuinely good loaf of bread, and worked out that our favourite days are the loud ones with everybody in the room. So that is the plan: no long speeches, no seating chart drama, just the people we like most in a room that smells of the sea.

We would love you to be there.

How the day runs

Nothing here needs a ticket or a timetable of your own — arrive for the welcome and we will carry you through the rest of it.

  1. 2:00 pm

    Welcome & cold drinks

Doors open on the terrace. Find your name on the shell table, take something cold, and say hello to the people you have only ever heard stories about.

  2. 3:00 pm

    The ceremony

Short and outdoors, under the old rigging arch. Twenty-five minutes, two sets of slightly shaky vows, and a single song that Opal has been practising in the car.

  3. 4:00 pm

    Harbour hour

Photographs for the handful of people we can corner, and small plates for everyone else. This is the part where the light is best, so stay outside if you can.

  4. 6:00 pm

    Long-table supper

One long table, dishes passed down it, and a toast from each side of the family. Vegetarian and gluten-free plates are built into the menu, not added on.

  5. 8:30 pm

    First dance, then yours

We go first, badly. The floor is open straight after, and the request box on your RSVP is the actual playlist — so choose carefully.

  6. 11:30 pm

    Lanterns out

Last song, last slice of cake, and a quiet walk back along the water for anyone still standing.

The setting

Harbourlight House

An old sail loft with tall windows, a stone terrace and a lawn that runs down towards the water. Everything on the day happens within one building and its garden, so once you arrive you can put your bag down and forget about it.

Getting there

Come by water or by rail

The house sits a ten-minute walk from the harbour railway stop, and the coastal path takes you to the door. Full travel notes go out with your invitation card once you have replied.

Staying over

Rooms held nearby

We have set aside a small block of rooms in the village for guests travelling a distance. Mention it in your reply and we will pass the booking details straight to you.

What to wear

Summer formal, sensible shoes

Think linen, light colours and something warm for after sunset. The terrace and lawn are uneven in places, so heels are a brave choice rather than a banned one.

Before you ask

Questions we have already been asked

If the answer you need is not here, add it to the note at the end of your RSVP and one of us will reply.

Can I bring my children?

Yes — named guests on your invitation include any children we have listed. There is a quiet room off the terrace with blankets and books for whenever the evening gets long, and supper includes a simpler plate for younger guests.

What about gifts?

Honestly, nothing. You are travelling to spend a day with us and that is plenty. If you would still like to mark it, a bottle for the shelf or a handwritten note for the box on the shell table means far more to us than anything boxed.

Is the ceremony outdoors if it rains?

The rigging arch is on the lawn, but the sail loft directly behind it seats everyone comfortably. We will make the call on the morning and tell you where to go when you arrive — either way, nothing moves by more than thirty metres.

I have a dietary requirement — is that a problem?

Not at all. Tell us in the RSVP form and it goes to the kitchen directly. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free versions of every course are already planned, and allergies are handled individually.

When do you need my reply?

By the end of March 2027, so the kitchen and the room plan can be finalised. Earlier is kinder to us, and it means your song request lands on the playlist before it fills up.

Can I take photographs?

During the ceremony we would love phones away — twenty-five minutes, eyes up. After that, please photograph everything, especially the parts we will be too busy to see.

RSVP

Tell us you’re coming

One reply per invitation is all we need. It takes about a minute, and it covers everything the kitchen and the band need to know.

If your plans change later, send the form again with a short note — no apology required.

Replies close at the end of March 2027.

Your requests become the playlist, in the order they arrive.
